4 Benefits of Scleral Contact Lenses

  • Cost-effective

Because they're custom fit, the cost of scleral lenses is usually higher than standard contact lenses. However, because sclerals last up to 2 years, they're more cost-effective in the long term.

  • Eye protection

Sclerals are larger than other types of contacts, which allows for better protection from debris, dust and allergens that may irritate or injure your eye.

  • Extra-stable vision

Their extra-large diameter keeps the scleral lenses centered and steady on your eye. If you play sports or have an active lifestyle, their size, shape and customized fit will prevent them from popping out of your eye.

  • Superior hydration

Scleral lenses form a pocket that fills with artificial tears as they vault over your cornea. This lubricating cushion provides an extremely comfortable wearing experience for all-day hydration.

With scleral lenses, you'll experience vision comfort and excellent optics like never before!

Scleral Lenses FAQs

Do scleral lenses help with dry eyes?

Scleral lenses can provide immense relief to dry eye patients.

These custom-designed lenses vault over the cornea and rest on the scleral while avoiding the irritated cornea. The liquid reservoir between the lens and the cornea provides a continuous moist environment that protects the cornea and provides relief for those with dry, itchy and burning eyes.

Are scleral lenses more comfortable than standard contact lenses?

Scleral lenses are custom-fit to your exact corneal measurements. This, along with the lenses’ extra-large size, makes the lenses both extra-comfortable and extra-stable on the eye.

Does insurance cover scleral lenses?

This will largely depend on the type of insurance you have. Not all insurances are the same. Some plans will cover the exam and the lens fitting, but will not cover the lenses themselves. Others will agree to pay part or all of the cost, but usually, after other treatment options have been exhausted.

I have had a very difficult time getting vision care with a physician that explained things. I walk... ed into Cascade eye care thinking to myself, just shut up let them give you new glasses, because they are not going to tell you anything useful. I was so wrong. I got to see Hanna Badger O.D. she spoke up explained my eye conditions in a manner that was respectful, useful, and explained my next steps. I know what's going on with my vision. I am go grateful, to just be treated like human and respected.

I had a great experience at Cascade Eye Care. From the moment I walked in, everyone was friendly and... helpful. Kylie was awesome—really patient, personable, and made sure I was comfortable through the whole process. Dr. Bill was thorough and easy to talk to. He explained everything clearly and didn’t rush through the exam at all. I left feeling confident and well taken care of. I’d definitely recommend Cascade Eye Care to anyone needing eye care. 👍

Everyone was so nice to me from the minute I walked in the door! My nurse (I think her name was Kate... ?) Was so kind talking me through all the weird machines and explaining what each one did. My doctor, doctor Badger was quick and to the point but still kind. She did a good job explaining things in a way I could understand. But my favorite part was picking the glasses! I was already stressed before I got there thinking of what pair I wanted and how to pick a pair that would fit me. Bernice, was so sweet and kind and helped me pick a pair I loved. I appreciated her honesty when trying on pairs that wouldn’t go with my face.

~Great experience ~hard to find? I never saw any sign for Cascade Eye Care. I drove past their build... ing, saw 930 on a multi unit building. Parked my car. Right next to suite 930 was 1001?? across parking lot was 928?? ..there was no 950 anywhere......actually, it was behind where I parked, a stand alone beautiful brick building, I saw no numbers or name on building. Update: No one was rude. I knew before I went back my insurance would not cover, I was quoted an amount $. I was advised not to pay right then. The eye glass rep said frames start at 9.00 and I had lots of cost effective choices for lenses. My insurance authorized their portion of my visit before I left, and I was told my portion was $64.00. Paid and all done. No surprises, I knew before exam began my insurance would not cover all of visit. Nice employees here. I opted to do some price comparison checking around, before getting any new frames or lenses.
